Why Kuta Lombok is a Surfer’s Paradise
Located in the southern end of the island of Lombok, Kuta is a small city where the surfing community of Lombok has been centered in the past decades. This area of the island features many beautiful beaches for all levels of surfing. The local community is very welcoming and always happy to share their love of surfing with visitors. You can find lots of varieties of restaurants and a few nice bars to enjoy a night with your friends. Kuta is very accessible, just a 25 minute drive from Lombok International Airport or a 2.5 hour fast boat from Bali followed by an hour drive from Bagsal harbor. The closest surf breaks are 15 minutes away with beaches with both left and right handers like Tanjung Aan good for longboarding and Areguling for those seeking barrels. There are plenty of activities to do besides surfing like paragliding, trekking the Rinjani volcano, exploring waterfall locations and checking out the local culture activities.
Let's check out the main surf breaks:
Selong Belanak
A beautiful turquoise watered, white sandy beach break. Offers a perfect smooth wave for beginners that breaks both left and right.
Mawi
A powerful wave that breaks both left and right. This wave is for experienced surfers, it can get fast and hollow on the big days. There are also strong currents here so strong paddling skills are a must.
Areguling
One of the best waves in Lombok, Areguling has a very consistent righthander that gives you a big drop and even barrels on the big days. The other side of the beach also features a left hander that is not as consistent as the right but with the proper conditions it can also spit out clean barrels. This side of the break does have some currents to care for.
Seger
A fun short ride, Seger breaks both left and right over a reef that has many sea urchins to be careful of. It is a great spot for shortboards and can be really good with the proper swell. Sensitive to winds it is best to surf it when conditions are glassy.
Tanjung Ann
One of the most beautiful beaches in Lombok, beginner friendly most of the time, Tanjung Ann is a great longboard wave that breaks both left and right however the righthander offers a longer ride. Turquoise waters and wide sand are the best view you can get from any of the restaurants located in the same beach to enjoy an after-surf meal. When the big swells arrive, Tanjung Ann can throw out barrels for the advanced surfers to enjoy.
Grupuk
Grupuk bay offers many breaks that are accessible through boats that you can catch at the harbor.
Outside
A powerful righthander that can barrel on big days.
Kids point

Inside
Located at the furthest side of the bay, inside offers a nice right hander that can take you on a ride full of powerful turns. There is also a short lefthander that usually closes up fast.
